Public Liability Insurance for Faith and Church Groups

At Insync we appreciate that not all religious or church groups will own premises, it is now very common to rent premises from a local authority or private landlord. In these circumstances, you will likely be asked to provide proof of public liability insurance for your faith group in case of any property damage or injury to a member of the public as a result of your occupation of the premises. Public liability limits start from £1m, but many local authorities will ask for a £5m indemnity limit to align to their level of cover.

Public liability insurance quotes for church groups start from as little as £100 per annum and one of our expert advisors will assist you in finding the right level of cover at the right price.

What Type of Religious Groups can you Cover?

Insync can offer cover for all types of faith groups from small community groups to large organisations. Our team can provide cover for your physical assets and legal liabilities quickly and easily over the phone. At Insync, we understand that a standard business insurance policy will not address the unique risks of churches and religious groups. This is why we provide faith groups with specialist cover catered to your individual needs.

Buildings & Contents Insurance

While liability insurance is still important to consider, as a place of worship, you should start by considering your physical assets such as buildings and contents. Unfortunately, many places of worship are targets of crimes such as theft of metal and vandalism. With Insync, you can protect both your building and what's inside from the costs of theft or fire and flooding damage up to your selected limit of indemnity.

Faith and Church Liability Claims Example

Your cleaner is injured when a stepladder belonging to the church proves unstable while cleaning a high up area. The cleaner falls and breaks their ankle, leaving them unable to work for several months. While the cleaner does not wish ill on the church for their injuries, they are forced to make a claim for their lost income during that time.

FAQs for Church and Faith Group Insurance

WHAT IF OTHER GROUPS USE OUR SPACE?

It's common practice for church halls and the like to be used by other members of the community for events like birthday parties, local group activities, even playgroups and nurseries. If this is the case, you should let us know when you set up the cover so we can make sure you have adequate protection. In some cases, it may not be possible to cover their activities under your Public Liability cover. In which case, it is advisable to insist that the groups using your facilities have their own Public Liability Insurance to ask to see their insurance certificates before they start using the facilities.

IS FAITH GROUP INSURANCE COMPULSORY?

Unless your organisation has employees, in which case you would legally be required to purchase Employers' Liability Insurance, there is no necessity to purchase faith or church insurance. However, as your group involves people and meets in a public place, then it would make absolute sense to purchase public liability insurance.

Public liability protects against claims from members of the public for injury or damage to property as a result of the actions of the group.

WHAT OTHER COVERS SHOULD A CHURCH GROUP CONSIDER?

The extent of your religious group's activities will determine the levels of each cover which may be appropriate.

Common covers include event insurance for one-off or fundraising activities, group travel cover for excursions and professional indemnity for any counselling or advice.

We also recommend trustees and officers indemnity which provides the group's leadership from claims for unintentional poor decisions (for example fund allocation).
