What is Community Group Insurance?
Community Group Insurance provides protection for the many thousands of not-for-profit clubs, support groups or projects working locally for the benefit of the local population.
As well as core public liability insurance, community groups may require employers’ liability for any direct employees and volunteers as well as protection for any contents or equipment for which it may be responsible.
Do I need Community Group Insurance?
Almost all community based groups will operate from a hall or other premises, with this in mind, the majority of clubs and groups will have a need to purchase public liability insurance. Public liability provides indemnity from injury or damage to property from a member of the public.
Where you are operating from third party premises, for example a village hall owned by the local authority, it is likely that you will be asked to provide proof of liability cover before you can use the facility.
Community Group policies will also extend to provide cover for fundraising events and multiple locations as required.

Community Group Policy Extended Covers
As well as the central public liability insurance protection, our Community Group policies can be tailored to include a range of optional covers to meet your exacting requirements.
If you have any paid employees, Employers Liability can be added, as well as contents and/or equipment, laptops or computers, money, personal accident professional indemnity and legal expenses. You only pay for the sections of cover you need, which keeps your costs in check.
How much Community Group Cover do I need?
One thing we can say with certainty; no two community groups are the same! Single public liability insurance ranges from a minimum of £1m to £5m.
When considering limit, you should take into account the number of members or attendees you have as well as any fundraising events you may run.
Often your required limit will be driven by a requirement from a local authority or other landlord where the group is based.
how much does Community Group Insurance cost?
Annual public liability cover can start from as little as £60 (plus insurance premium tax). Other sections can be added based on your individual requirements, but as you only pay for the sections you need you can manage costs appropriately.
Community Group Claims example
A village youth club suffers a break-in and £5,000 of contents and computer equipment is stolen as well as vandalism to the sound system and several windows.
