What Insurance does a Nail Salon need?

A thorough Nail Salon Insurance package for salon owners can provide you peace of mind that you’re covered for the unexpected. At Insync, we can help you find you the right cover for your business at the right price. The exact cover you need will depend on your business and the risks you face.

According to the Times newspaper, there is now over 30,000 nail salons in the UK, luckily, Insync can offer cover for both self-employed nail technicians as well as nail salons or nail bars.

If you run a nail salon you will need cover for your business contents and any improvements and decoration you have made to the premises. Not to mention the cover for signage, shop front and as well as business interruption following a property damage claims such as a flood or fire to cover fixed expenses such as rent, business rates etc.

Woman's hand having nail treatments

Quick and flexible nail Salon insurance

Our specialist nail salon insurance policy will cover you whenever and wherever you work, from mobile technicians working on a mobile basis, to your home, a nail bar, spa, hotel, salon or any other location.

Insurance cover for all types of nail treatments from manicuring, nail gels & extensions, all types of nail art and pedicuring.

Unlike other insurers, we can also offer massage cover as standard allowing hand, arm, foot and leg massages for qualified technicians at no extra cost.

Mobile Nail Technicians

All Insync insurance policies for nail techs include cover for working in both their salon and on a mobile or freelance basis as standard.

Similarly, if you include business equipment, the cover is arranged on an “All Risks” basis which means your equipment is covered at your home, business premises and/or when working from clients home or other location such as a wedding venue or an event.

Beauty Public Liability Insurance

Beauty public liability insurance is as important as treatments risk cover. The purpose of it is to protect you if a client or member of the public should suffer an injury caused by you, but not directly related to any beauty treatments or because of your work.

Instead, beauty public liability insurance will cover you for example if you leave a make-up box on the floor and someone trips over it and is injured.

Accidental damage to a client’s property is also covered, for example, if you scratch a car while getting your beauty trolly up their drive away. This type of insurance is essential and can be added to any of our beauty policies.

What can be included in our Nail Salon Insurance package?

We can offer a wide range of covers for your Nail Salon business.

If you would like to know more then get in touch with our expert team.

As a Nail Technician, you should consider taking out treatment risk insurance, also known as treatment liability, for treatments such as nail extensions, gels, acrylics, nail art and painting. This protects you in the event of personal injury to a client due to the treatment you have performed. As a nail or beauty salon owner, your treatment risk cover will extend to your employees, too, as long as they are working for you.

If you receive a claim for malpractice or professional negligence concerning treatments you have carried out, your treatment liability cover will cover both legal fees and compensation costs.

Public Liability cover provides legal liability protection for incidents of third-party personal injury, accidental death or third-party property damage which have occurred as part of your business activities. This does not cover you for injuries caused directly by treatments you have carried out; for that, you will need Treatment Risk insurance.

An example of a Public Liability claim at your salon would be spilling nail polish on a client’s designer handbag or a client slipping on a wet floor, and this causes accidental bodily injury. While incidents of accidental death are rare, if someone was to have a fatal accident in your salon, you could be found legally liable, which comes with a large compensation claim. Public Liability insurance will cover both the legal fees and compensation payable to the claimant if you are found liable.

You should also consider taking out Business Interruption insurance to protect your business from financial losses following an insured property insurance event, such as a fire or flood. For example, a pipe bursts in your salon, meaning you have to shut your business while it is repaired and cleaned. Alongside covering the cost of the repairs, a Business Interruption will cover you for the loss of income during that time, allowing you to still cover your fixed costs such as rent, business rates and contractual wage roll.

If you are running a nail and beauty salon from a fixed location, such as a High Street location, you should consider cover for your business contents, equipment, fixtures & fittings and tenants’ improvements.

If you own the property, you will need to insure the building itself. This can be covered on a standalone Property Owners Insurance, or simply added to the nail salon business insurance. If you’re renting your commercial space, you will need to check with the property owner who is responsible for the buildings insurance, but typically under a typical full repairing and insuring lease, you will be responsible for payment of the building insurance, but not arranging it, your landlord will arrange the cover in their own name.

If you’ve installed your own fixtures & fittings, it will be your responsibility to insure these as tenants’ improvements, as they will not be covered by your landlord. Some assets you may look to insure are:
– Glass shopfronts (if they are your responsibility)
– Signage
– Lighting
– Decoration and count tops
– Fixed Furniture

As a Nail Salon owner, you need more than just your skill. Without your kit, you won’t be able to carry out appointments which is a risk to your livelihood. If your equipment is damaged or stolen, you would have to put up the money for a replacement. With Specialist Equipment cover, you can claim the cost of your beauty equipment up to the sum insured.

Business equipment and money cover can be added to your quotation/policy simply and easily, with varying levels of cover from as little as £1,500 to £50,000+, with premiums starting from just £20.00 per year.

If you are qualified to carry out other treatments, our team can arrange comprehensive insurance cover for all aspects of your business, including hair treatments, facials, makeup, massages and more.

Asked Nail Salon Insurance
Questions

We have prepared a list of the questions we are regularly asked by Customers before and after buying a policy.

If you need further help we are always available.

We developed our nail insurance policy to be comprehensive in terms of cover but also easy on your pocket and simple to quote and buy online in under 3 minutes.

Core cover for £2,000,000 Public Liability, including £1,000,000 Treatment Risk Insurance is just £35.00 per year*. For full comprehensive nail salon insurance packages one of our Advisors can ensure

Our advice is always to buy the highest level of cover you can reasonably afford; however, it depends on your business and your client base.

If you work with high net worth individuals, you may choose to consider a higher limit than the standard £2,000,000.

The only insurance that is a legal requirement for a nail technician or nail salon owner would be Employers Liability if you take on staff, as set out in the Employers’ Liability (Compulsory Insurance) Act 1969. Not having adequate employers liability cover can result in fines of up to £2,500 for every day you are not insured.

Public liability is not a legal requirement, you could choose to cover the risk yourself and pay any potential claims for injury or damage to a client’s property or possessions from your savings. However, with insurance cover for nail technicians starting from just £0.67p a week, it doesn’t make economic sense not to arrange protection.

If you ever expand your business and choose to employ any staff, you will be legally required to arrange Employers Liability Insurance in case of an accident, injury or illness to an employee as a consequence of their employment with your business.

Whilst many nail professionals will undertake NVQ training, or obtain a level 2 or 3 certificates in nail technology, our nail insurance is available to anyone suitably qualified and/or accredited allowing the majority of nail professionals to access cover.

All quotations for nail professions can be purchased up to 30 days before your renewal date via our online system. Simply select the preferred start date and your policy documents will be issued from this date.

For experienced nail technicians with a training qualification, teaching others can become a lucrative business. Our nail tech scheme can extend to cover teaching from just £0.67p per week for up to 20 students per class.

Products Liability protects your legal liability from injury or illness to a third party following a product you have provided and is a valuable addition to any business insurance policy.

If you sell or provide products to clients in your nail salon it is advisable to obtain products liability insurance. Popular products sold by nail bars and salons include nail files, nail varnish, fungus treatment products, heel treatments, cuticle oils and sparklers.

All of these products can add valuable additional revenue. However, if a client was then to experience any personal injury, such as an allergic reaction, or the product were to leak, destroying a £2,000 handbag, you could be facing a costly compensation claim.

Not only does it apply to products that you sell, but you can also be found liable for products that you have given away as free samples.

At Insync, Products Liability cover comes with your Public Liability insurance as standard. However, if you are manufacturing any cosmetic products to sell at your salon, let our team know as soon as possible, as this may change the indemnity limit you require.

Yes, you can pay for your nail technician or salon policy in either monthly instalments via direct debit, or in one lump sum payment.

If you are self-employed one way to bring a big halt to business is to suffer an injury that leaves you unable to work. Personal Accident Insurance provides financial protection for losses caused by being unable to work due to personal injury.
